EDUCATION & OUTREACH

FCCD proudly partners with various organizations in central Washington to host and support many education and outreach events across Douglas County such as Camp Sagebrush and Salmon in the Classroom. Instilling an understanding and appreciation for the natural environment bolsters curiosity and stewardship among students and creates a brighter future for all.

Camp Sagebrush

Registration for Camp Sagebrush 2024 will open on February 21st, 2024.

Camp Sagebrush, a 3-day summer program, is hosted by FCCD at Sun Lakes-Dry Falls State Park in Central Washington. The camp, open state-wide to grades 5-7th, offers campers opportunities to explore the shrub steppe with experts, examine water quality, embark on exciting nature hikes, train with wildland firefighters, and learn how to identify native plants and wildlife.

Salmon in the Classroom

Salmon in the Classroom helps to connect students to their local watershed and showcases how a small group of people can make a big difference within their environment! Through hands-on rearing in the classroom, students learn about the salmon life cycle, ecological and cultural significance of salmon, water quality parameters, as well as conservation efforts that help bolster and protect native populations.

Additional Outreach Events

We make routine appearances and often provide custom curriculum and hands-on activities for events such as Sharp-Tailed Grouse Days, Earth Day at Pybus in Wenatchee, Kids in the Creek, Mansfield Play Days, North Central Washington District Fair, Flood Fest, and Wenatchee River Salmon Festival.
