Education and Outreach

Foster Creek Conservation District has had a lot of fun in the last few months at various education and outreach activities. In May, FCCD presented on restoration and the Multiple Species General Conservation Plan at the Washington Native Plant Society’s stewardship course. That month we also be helped out at the Triple Creek field trip, the Kids in the Creek Habitat Sense Station and Chelan PUD River of Power. In June, FCCD tested water quality of the Chelan River with high school students for the Hydropower STEM Career Academy through Rocky Reach Dam.

The first ever FCCD botany day was a big success! Olivia and Aaron of FCCD lead a group of curious folks into the beautiful Moses Coulee to check out the plants and share some of their knowledge.  A total of 68 plants were identified at least to genus, with one unknown in the Aster family, one unknown in the Borage family, and one completely unknown.  If there is interest, FCCD would be happy to offer this trip again next spring and continue to build interest and appreciation for the native plants around us.  A big thank you to The Nature Conservancy for hosting us on their Moses Coulee Preserve for this event!

Upcoming Events: FCCD will be participating in Entiat River Appreciation Day on July 29th at Entiaqua Park. You can also find us at the North Central Washington Fair in Waterville, August 24th-27th.
